Mitchell Heisman, a 35 year old man, shot himself at Harvard yard on September 18, 2010, leaving behind a 1905-page suicide note.
He worked on it for 5 years, which his family and about 400 friends received in a posthumous e-mail. He had studied psychology in college and had told his family and friends. That he was working on “a history of the Norman conquest of England.”
Heisman addressed in his note that he took his life as part of a philosophical exploration he called “an experiment in nihilism”.
His suicide note included 1,433 footnotes, over 1,700 references to god, 200 references to the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and a 20-page bibliography.
Heisman wrote, “Every word, every thought and every emotion come back to one core problem: life is meaningless…
The experiment in nihilism is to seek out and expose every illusion and every myth, wherever it may lead, no matter what, even if it kills us.”
Heisman friends informed that be bought a 38 caliber pistol three years ago.
What are your thoughts about this?
Life is Meaningless But It Also Gives Us Freedom To Give Meaning To it. Life Is an unwanted stone on road Which nobody cares about. But it’s up to you Whether You carved out statue from it or cry for it’s useless existence.
I can relate! My husband actually makes a joke about me that I could never kill myself because I would be editing my suicide note daily! Oh!! ❤️🦋🌀
Do you have sense of humor? Or real
Do you have a sense of humor? Or real
I have a sense of humor. But yes, I was raised to be very serious (and I work as an analyst!), so one of my main challenges in life is to learn not to take myself so seriously. 😉
Ok ok 🌀
Meaningless, yet very considered and targeted so as to not be forgotten. Interesting twist.
